aSS – A Swiss String

Well, this is certainly a play on words! aSS microwear. adrenaline Shaking Sweets or addictive Swiss Scandals.

Take a look at the home page and your heart will start racing. A red string with three bows highlighting the right places and covering nothing. This has to be the “microest” of all micro bikinis. To be exact, these bathing suits are called “Micro Strings”.

Born out of a personal need for a micro string suit, Maria Wagner from Basel, Switzerland founded the company in 2002 when her girlfriends and others saw the suits she made for herself. Everyone wanted to be like Maria so she decided to offer the line to women around the world. And one can clearly see that this is a European collection of bathing suits. Wearing one of these designs might get you arrested in more conservative countries!

Even more interesting than how this company came to be, is the fact that Maria sews everything herself. The only help she receives is some graphic design from her husband. When asked whether her designs were underwear or bikinis, she answers by saying, “aSS offers lingerie you may wear as bikinis and bikinis you may wear as lingerie. We don’t mind for what purpose you choose to wear aSS, as long as you feel good and sexy with it, the whole year around.”

They really have put a lot of attention into the website providing clear photos of the materials used, the colours available as well as descriptions on what fabrics are more suitable for what type of wear. The fabrics are a large range of cotton, shine, mesh, veil, holes, fence, lace, beach, stripe, camouflage, jewel and skulls. Sizing is x-small to large.

Another very helpful element of the website is the way in which one can view the suits. They are shown with a front view but when pointing at the photos, the back view will become visible. There is no need to guess at how the suit looks from the description. Clicking on an individual suit, one is brought to a detailed page showing up close photos of the top and bottom as well as the colours and choice of bands.

Although aptly named, the suits are curiously entitled Maniacal, Demonica, Royal, Social, Infernal, Rival, Virtual, Hysterical, Disloyal, Criminal, Animal and Celestial. Not sure what the “Dental” suit has to do with one’s teeth, other than the fact that it might be construed as a long piece of dental floss, the suit itself is a brightly coloured string shaped in a triangle for the top outlining the breasts while the bottom is a string thong. The “Immoral” is an obvious description with no top and only a string and faux pearls for the bottom.

The “Corporal” is a camouflage fabric with pretty pink, silver or gold bands contrasting the green and brown. One can see why the “Antisocial” is a perfect name. Bottoms only with a big hole in the back showing the center of the derrière and front leg coverage with a hole in the center best covered with a stick-on design. The “Frontal” and the “Original” are probably the most modest in this micro string collection.

So if you want to go bare with just a hint of fabric, aSS will be your brand!
